A Scare and a Blessing

I've tried to write this blog once already; I had gotten about half of it written when the computer shut off. Let's try this again, shall we? These past couple months have been pretty eventful, with lots of big and small things happening. I've become a fan of the bullet list to point out the highlights...it keeps these posts from being way too long.

- Thanksgiving happened. Beck's first Thanksgiving was a hit, with a little family picture to boot. It's the main picture I've got above.

- Beckham and I (Kyle was at school) got to go to a Christmas party for the Idaho Statesman, where Kyle's dad works. It was at the Botanical Gardens over by the old Penitentiary. It was all lit up with Christmas lights, and Santa was there! Beck and his cousins Halle and Jovie got to meet him! If Beck could talk, I think he'd ask Santa for bibs, white onesies, and something to suck on. :)

- My mom and I tried to take Beckham to get his pictures taken at Kiddie Kandids in the mall. I realized, though, that it's ridiculous to go those places anymore because of the price - you get just a few pictures for WAY too much money. If anything good came out of that experience, though, it was to see how they put him in those cute poses and then go home and try to re-create it myself somehow, for free. I ended up taking the pictures myself to give to our family for Christmas presents...and if you are reading this, family, just act surprised when you get it, ok? :)

Alright, now for the explanation of the title of this blog post.

Beck turned two months old, and is growing, growing, growing! At his two month appointment he weighed 11.1 pounds, and was 23 inches long. The doc says he's right on track.

Most moms know that with a two month old appointment comes two month old immunizations. I was dreading the day! Not looking forward to hearing my little guy so sad, the nurse comes in with 3 shots and an oral vaccine, and delivers them like she does it everyday...because she does. That's why when the nurse practitioner came in to tell me that the nurse had administered the wrong shot, I was flabbergasted. THE WRONG SHOT. As his mom, and not really knowing what I could do, I started to cry. You can imagine all of the things going through my head... They assured me that everything would be fine, but that they needed to now give him the correct one. Poor Beckham got poked again and they sent us on our way. My mom and I drove home and kinda freaked out a bit. We weren't sure if he would have a reaction, or if he would be o.k. The nurse accidently gave him the Hepatitis A vaccine, which isn't usually given to babes until they are a year old; it has never been tested on a two month old before. We called doctors and poison control and anyone else we could think of to make sure Baby B. would be alright. Turns out, (if I'm explaining this right) the Hepatitis A vaccine is a dry vaccine, which means there are no traces of the actual disease in the shot (unlike many vaccines, that have a trace of the virus so that your body can build antibodies to fight it off). Don't quote me on this, cause I'm not a Doctor. Back hasn't had any side effects from it at all, but I count this as our first big scare as parents. Although I know it was an accident made by one single person at this clinic, we will not be returning there. It just makes me feel better to say that.

The 'scare' happened on a Friday, and the next Sunday, December 12th, Beckham was blessed. We decided to do it at the church that evening, rather than in Sacrament Meeting. I think it was much more special that way. With many family and friends surrounding him, Beckham sat smiling in the middle of the circle while Kyle blessed him with many things, one of the most important that particular day being health and strength. It calmed my nerves to hear those words and know that our little guy was going to be alright. Thank heaven for the Priesthood, right? I'm grateful for Kyle.
